A camera examination of the bladder and urethra.
A cystoscopy is a procedure in which a thin tube with a camera (a cystoscope) is passed through the urethra to look inside the bladder and urethra.
Small procedures, such as taking a biopsy or removing a small stone, can often be done at the same time.
It may be advised to investigate blood in the urine, repeated urinary infections or unexplained urinary symptoms, to check for bladder stones or tumours, or for follow-up after bladder cancer treatment.
